Easiest Way to Identify an Early-1962: From the outside: KG & unique no-tab 1500 scripts on left rear panel, rectangular VW 1500 front nose emblem, KARMANN script & Ghia shield on right side quarter panel.
From the inside: large round seat recliner knob on outside of seats, front seat backrest release knob at top of seats with cut-out in aluminum seat trim.
Easiest Way to Identify Late-1962: From the outside: round VW front nose emblem, VOLKSWAGEN & tabbed 1500 scripts on left rear panel, KG script on right rear decklid.
From the inside: large Anthracite seat recliner knob in front of seats, front seat backrest release knob at base of side-seat with solid aluminum seat trim.
All 1962 models had: two-piece fresh air chrome trim & thin ivory fresh air knobs, 90mph/150kph speedo, half-moon horn ring, single carb engine, push-button dash, long two-piece windshield trims, ivory rotary heater knob with red dot, solid ivory shift knob, & asymmetrical "cat's eye" drivers side mirror.
Color Combinations: Two-tone was the standard paint scheme but monotone could be special-ordered.
Seats were leatherette with color-matched cloth center sections or solid leatherette. The mesh cloth was used only during 1962-64 and came in Silver, Red, Blue, Yellow, & Brown.
Interior panels were two-tone with either Silver-Beige or Ice Blue on top and various color-matched vinyl on the bottom (except Black which was solid).
