Easiest Way to Identify a 1966: From the outside: VW 1600 script on the left rear panel & round-slotted beauty rings.
From the inside: Painted dash panel with chromed fresh-air knobs, gauges have silver knobs & white needles, half-moon horn bar, chromed knobs on quarter windows & visor clips, vanity mirror on right visor, air pressure sticker on front hood, gray-black seat backrest knob with chromed cap, & non-locking front seat backrests.
All 1966 models had: Dual-carb 1600cc engine, half-moon horn bar, black 4-lug rims with round-slotted beauty rings, ivory knobs (fresh-air, quarter windows, sunvisor clips), & ribbed flat license plate light lenses.
Color Combinations: Monotone was the standard paint scheme but two-tone could be special-ordered.
Seats were leatherette with color-matched cloth center sections or a lined color-matched leatherette.
