The first press photographs distributed to the
press for publication were released in April 1961. The VW 1500 series program was a highly-guarded secret by Volkswagen
and the press was electric over news that photos would be available. Photos of five VW 1500 models were released: Notchback
Sedan, Notchback Cabriolet, Variant, Karmann Ghia Coupe, & Karmann Ghia Cabriolet.
There were two different photos of the right side profile and three different photos of the right front.
The Coupe's side photo and the Cabriolet photos were the only ones featuring wide white wall tires. But the Coupe with
white walls has no aluminum trim rings seen on the Cabriolet & other Coupe photos.
If you look closely at the Cabriolet front you can see the nose emblem filled-in with white. The Coupe, however, does not
have a filled-in emblem.
And the small KARMANN script & Ghia badge is fitted only on the right side for the Coupe and only the left side for the
Cabriolet. |
